Gutter Cleaning is an important maintenance item for your home. Here is why:

  • Leaving leaves, pine needles, and sludge in your gutters increases the weight that your gutters have to carry (remember, water weighs about 8 pounds per gallon), and puts extra strain on your gutter system and the spikes holding it to your house.
  • Think about your gutters holding an extra 20 gallons of water soaked into leaves, pine needles and sludge—that would be an extra 160 pounds of weight, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until they are cleaned. The life of your gutter system is shortened by leaf and pine needle filled gutters.
  • If your rain gutters are clogged, they can also cause water to back up and wick under your roof system, which can, in some cases, actually lead to water getting inside your home!
  • Water backing over the back of your full gutters can cause damage to your siding by holding water on it [link to Scott Harris photo of siding], causing premature rot, and can cause your fascia to prematurely rot, weakening your gutter system support.
  • Clear, unclogged downspouts are critical. If you have the newer style of gutters and downspouts (smaller, with square corners that look great) they clog easily, preventing water from draining efficiently. If they are clogged, it’s important not just to clean the top, but to make sure that they drain all the way down. (We once found and 18” stick stuck over two feet down a downspout!) Using a plumbers snake and clearing and checking with a low pressure nozzle are both important to making sure your downspouts are draining freely.
  • We also have some inexpensive solutions for keeping the downspouts clear.

    We clean your gutters the right way:
  • we scoop out all of the debris, so that we don’t leave a mess;
  • we use a plumbers snake on all the downspouts to make sure that they are clear; and then
  • we rinse and check the downspouts with a pressure nozzle to leave them as clean as possible;
  • we make sure there is no mess left on your gutters, siding, or landscaping when we are done;
  • we then haul away and dispose of the debris.
