Our great Pacific Northwest climate makes trees, flowers, grass and shrubs green. It also provides a perfect environment for moss and algae to grow on your decks, walks, patios, and driveways, making them slippery and dangerous when wet (which is most of the year!) The best solution is to keep them clean and free of slippery growth with pressure washing.
We use different pressure washers and pressure washing equipment for different jobs. On concrete, we use a high-powered machine for fast, economical results. On wood, we use a lower-powered machine which still cleans but doesn’t tend to tear up the wood. After washing, wood should be treated or painted to preserve it.
Your foundations, walkways and driveways seem tough and durable because they are made of concrete. But concrete is just a special mixture of sand and gravel, and it is porous. It lets water into the small holes and cracks present in any concrete, and eventually causes the concrete to deteriorate and break up, requiring expensive replacement. Of course concrete also gets dirty, which is not only unsightly, but also unsafe; that dirty concrete is slippery, and even more so if it has a patina of algae on it.
The best solution is pressure washing to remove the dirt and algae, but pressure washing tends to wear away the concrete. So pressure washing followed by a commercial grade sealant on your foundation, walks and driveway is the best solution for long term care of your home.
We don’t recommend pressure washing your siding. Too many things can go wrong. We recommend literally washing your house, just like it was a big car, with a low pressure wash and scrub brushes and soap, followed by a rinse. Much safer, and leaves it clean without needing a lot of repairs!
